LINCOLN PARK – Blackwater Union was honored as the winner of the June 28 Battle of the Bands winner by Mayor Maureen Tobin during the July 14 City Council meeting.

The competition, held at the Lincoln Park band shell, also featured local bands The American Ruse, The Half of It and Midnight Proof.

Tobin said Blackwater Union won by more than 100 votes, with a total of 702 votes, and they will be invited to perform as the trophy holders at next year’s competition.

She said the voting was facilitated by scanning a QR code, with the voting closing at midnight the day of the competition.

The band members are Steven Demeter, Antonio Galindo, Laurence Gondek, Lalo Rockenfield and Mike Wilinski.

Tobin said she’s known the band for a while and considers them one of her local favorites.

“It was a long time coming, but it is so well deserved,” she said as she handed them the trophy. “Congratulations on a job well done.”
