WYANDOTTE – A Wyandotte woman turned artificial intelligence into a real-life win when she won a $100,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery with a set of numbers generated by ChatGPT!

Tammy Carvey, 45, matched four white balls — 11-23-44-61-62 —and the Powerball – 17 – in the Sept. 6 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Her Power Play option multiplied the prize to $100,000. She bought her winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.

“I only play Powerball when the jackpot gets up there and the jackpot was over $1 billion so I bought a ticket,” Carvey said. “I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and those are the numbers I played on my ticket.

“When I checked the winning numbers, I saw I matched four white balls and the Powerball and knew I had to have won something. Google told me it was a $50,000 prize, so that’s what I thought I’d won. It wasn’t until I logged into my Michigan Lottery account that I realized I added the Power Play to my ticket and actually won $100,000. My husband and I were in total disbelief.”

Carvey visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim her prize. With her winnings, she plans to pay off her house and then save the remainder.

Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A Power Play option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.

The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays and may be watched live online at www.powerball.com. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states; Washington, D.C.; U.S. Virgin Islands; and Puerto Rico.

About 97 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players, and commissions to vendors and retailers. In the 2024 fiscal year, the Lottery provided more than $1.2 billion for Michigan’s public schools, its sixth contribution of more than $1 billion.

Since it began in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $29 billion to support public education in Michigan.
