SOUTHGATE – City Administrator Dan Marsh provided an update on the Southgate Tower renovation project and explained crosswalk construction delays during the Jan. 7 City Council meeting.
He said the last update city officials received indicated that the Tower will be opening in February, but he thinks it might be later than that.
Marsh said rental rates for the tower are still unknown, but floor plans are available on the website thebanktowerapts.com.
He said the parking structure is in a seasonal shutdown, and the top coat will go on the pickleball courts in the spring, along with the fencing and lighting.
“DTE will put lighting throughout the park,” Marsh said. “There are some additional plantings that remain, hydroseeding of the park space and turf for the golf course putting green, and the pavilion will be installed as well.”
He said work on the pedestrian bridge to Kiwanis Park is continuing, and the abutments can be seen from Trenton Road coming out of the ground.
“The bridge itself is now in the bridge construction contractor’s yard, E.C. Korneffel, and it’s going to remain in the yard until they install all the lighting and the signage,” Marsh said. “I have been informed that due to some supply chain issues the lighting is probably not going to be available until the spring, meaning that the bridge itself will not be installed until probably until late spring.”
