HEIGHTS – Having begun as an appointed mayor, newly elected Mayor Mo Baydoun spoke of the city’s new era during its Jan. 17 inauguration ceremony held at the Crestwood High School Auditorium.

The event began with the Dearborn Heights Honor Guard posting the colors and the Detroit Youth Choir singing the national anthem.

Sheikh Mohammad Ayad and the Rev. Nathan Hayes provided invocations.

Mark Plawecki, 20th District Court judge, administered the oath of office to re-elected City Clerk Lynne Senia and Treasurer Lisa Hicks-Clayton, along with re-elected City Councilmembers Hassan Ahmad, Nancy Bryer and Tom Wencel, and newly elected Councilmember Margaret King.

Ahmad spoke to the crowd, after which the Detroit Youth Choir entertained attendees with several upbeat songs.

Wayne County Executive Warren Evans spoke, followed by former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Yvonna Abraham, who swore in Baydoun.

Baydoun said it was a great day for Dearborn Heights.

“It marks the beginning of a new era in our city, where government, business leaders, residents and visitors will see great strides in our city,” he said. “We look forward to coming together in a shared sense of unity, improved city services, a new level of respect for our great first responders, excellent city services, newfound respect for our residents and business owners and a fully transparent government operation.”
