Incumbent U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-13th District) was defeated in the Aug. 4 primary election, narrowly losing to state Rep. Donavan McKinney’s 57,714 votes (51.9 percent) to 53,494 votes (48.1 percent). McKinney will face Republican T.P. Nykoriak, who ran unopposed in the primary, in November.
In the U.S. Senate race, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed received 742,017 votes (48.5 percent) in the primary, narrowly edging out 11th District U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens with 727,091 votes (47.5 percent). Mallory McMorrow, who withdrew in July, was a distant third with 61,344 votes (4.0 percent). El-Sayed will face Republican Mike Rogers, who ran unopposed, in November.
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-12th District) won the Democratic primary with 102,510 votes (73.9 percent), with Shanelle Jackson in second with 23,327 votes (16.8 percent) and Byron Nolen in third with 12,800 votes (9.2 percent). Tlaib will face Republican James Hooper, who ran unopposed in the primary, in November.
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-6th District) ran unopposed in the primary. She will face Republican Heather Smiley, who was also unopposed in the primary, in November.
Democrat incumbent Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans won the primary for Wayne County executive with 221,375 votes (87.55 percent) to second place finisher Sigmunt John Szczepkowski Jr.’s 29,171 votes (11.54 percent). Evans will face Republican challenger Michael A. Evans in November.
In the gubernatorial race, Democrat and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson will run against Republican and U.S. Rep. John James (R-10th District) in November.
The Wayne County Public Transportation millage for the Transit Authority passed with 230,977 votes in favor (67.03 percent), with 113,591 votes in opposition (32.97 percent).
