SOUTHGATE — A parent complained Sept. 18 that for the previous week and a half, a school bus driver had failed to activate the flashing hazard lights when picking up children at Village on the Park apartments, near Northline Road and McCann Avenue.

A manager at Dean Transportation, the company that provides the buses and drivers, said they would instruct the driver to use the flashing lights and bus-mounted stop sign to keep students safer during drop-off and pick-up.

A police officer followed up the next day during bus pick-up time and saw that the driver was using the mandated safety equipment.
