WYANDOTTE — Downriver Central Dispatch is back to full capacity after a recently vacated position was filled.

City councilors voted Monday to hire part-time dispatcher Kellie Alderman to a full-time position vacated April 1 by the resignation of a full-time dispatcher.

Alderman has worked as a dispatcher in the center for three years. She was the top scorer in an interview process begun April 3.

According to a letter presented by Police Chief Daniel Grant at Monday’s meeting, the move will save the city $3,014 in the first year as Alderman is replacing an employee who was at a higher salary level.

Formed in 2010 between Wyandotte, Southgate and Lincoln Park and housed in Wyandotte’s police station, Downriver Central Dispatch has helped trim nearly $135,000 a year from Wyandotte’s budget. Allen Park joined the collaboration in 2011.
