A woman contemplates whether to adopt a blind cat during the Love Me Because adoption event Feb 8 at Hood’s Do-It Best Hardware, 1844 Ford Ave. in Wyandotte. An estimated 400 people visited the hardware store between noon and 5 p.m., which kept the aisles crowded. This was the fifth year of the event which featured special-needs animals available for adoption. The needs of the animals ranged from specific dietary needs to being less-adoptable colors. The event was put on by the Love Me Because committee which is part of Precious Animal Welfare Society of Michigan. Event Coordinator Patti Christie said 15 animals were adopted and five other adoptions are pending. Between clothing sales and auctions, the event raised $11,500 with proceeds going to help support the group’s foster and adoption programs in southeast Michigan, fund its spay and neuter surgery, and its programs that provide pet food to low-income families with pets.
