TAYLOR — A 28-year-old Toledo man was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and with failing to stop and identify himself at a crash scene at 2:36 a.m. Aug. 21 in the 7600 block of Mayfair Street.
The drunken man, who was driving a 2014 black Dodge Durango, struck a parked 2021 Dodge Ram, then drove away. The victim’s brother and a neighbor followed the fleeing driver in another vehicle, while relaying to police dispatch the route of the pursuit.
Police officers rendezvoused with the pursuers and the suspect when the drunken driver parked on William Street near Brest Road.
The Toledo man admitted to having three shots of liquor and three beers earlier within a three-hour period. He also admitted to the hit-and-run.
He failed standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.139, more than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
He was taken into custody, and his vehicle was impounded and towed. A blood draw occurred at Beaumont Hospital, Taylor, after which he was taken to the Taylor police department, where he was processed and held.
