TRENTON — After an identity thief opened a checking account in a Trenton woman’s name Aug. 11 and after her bank notified her of the new account, she filed a police report to document the crime and initiate an investigation by her financial institution.

The fraudulent account was closed, and she did not lose any money. She was advised to flag her credit reports to prevent any other unauthorized accounts from being opened.
