WYANDOTTE – More than an ounce of crystal amphetamines was recovered the night of Sept. 27 during a routine traffic stop on Fort Street, preventing the deadly drugs from reaching the streets.
Deputy Police Chief Archie Hamilton said Police Officers Austin Sloan and Morgen Gardocki saw a vehicle with defective equipment traveling north on Fort Street near Vinewood when they decided to initiate a traffic stop to let the driver know about the violation.
However, the officers’ instincts and experience quickly came into play when they realized that the vehicle’s occupants were displaying clear indications of criminal activity.
The traffic stop was extended into a more thorough investigation, and a search of the vehicle revealed the illegal drugs.
“Officer Sloan and Officer Gardocki were able to remove a significant amount of what is perhaps the most addictive and dangerous drug today, and as a direct result of their effort, the drugs they confiscated will never have a chance to make a person dependent, cause an overdose, or bring about grief,” Hamilton said. “The impact of their actions is so much greater than we can imagine.”
