TRENTON — A woman filed a fraud report March 20 after being conned by a person on the messaging app Viber, with whom she shared identity information and to whom she sent $823 via PayPal.
The woman said she thought the man was a real person because he chatted about himself with her on the app.
She said she sent him her driver’s license and Social Security numbers, and her bank account numbers with her PINs.
The victim said he was going to send her $10,000 to help her out, but said her needed her to send $800 to a third party first. She did, but then became suspicious, and when she confronted him via the messaging app, he became the aggressor and said she would be arrested by the police, not him.
She was advised to work with her financial institution to block anyone from accessing her accounts, and to monitor her credit reports. It was also recommended that she block him on all social media platforms.
