TRENTON — A scam artist pretending to be from a woman’s credit union stole $7,400 from her on June 24, the victim reported.

A woman said she received an email purportedly from her credit union stating that a clerk was attempting to empty her account. She was told to take out all but $500, then send the balance through a Bitcoin machine to an account number provided.

When the woman later told her daughter about the situation, she discovered that she had been scammed. Her credit union also confirmed that they had not contacted her.
