RIVERVIEW — A 47-year-old Wyandotte man speeding at 1:26 a.m. Oct. 2 on Pennsylvania Road near Valade Street captured the attention of a Riverview police officer, who attempted a traffic stop, only to have the man speed off and run a red light at Quarry Road.
The police officer followed the man into Wyandotte, where the man finally stopped near 4th and Plum streets, where Wyandotte police officers arrived at the scene to assist.
The man admitted to drinking, and had glassy and bloodshot eyes and smelled of intoxicants. He also said he did not have a valid driver’s license.
The man failed standardized field sobriety tests.
A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.163, more than twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
His vehicle was impounded and towed, and he consented to a blood draw at a local hospital, after which he was transported to the Riverview police station, where he was booked and held.
Because the man had four prior drunken driving convictions, his current operating while impaired arrest was considered a felony.
