DEARBORN – Felecia Sunshine Lazo, 25, of Taylor has been charged by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy in connection with the vehicle crash that killed Dr. Ghada Mustapha, 33, of Dearborn.
The crash occurred at Michigan Avenue and Nowlin Street in Dearborn the morning of July 19 when Lazo, who was driving east on Michigan Avenue at a high rate of speed, allegedly ran a red light at Nowlin, crashing into Mustapha’s vehicle.
Lazo was charged with second degree murder, which could result in a life prison term.
Lazo was arraigned Nov. 6 in 19th District Court before Judge Mark Somers. Bond was set at $250,000, 10 percent, with a GPS tether, full house confinement except for medical appointments, and driving privileged revoked. The probable cause hearing was set for 9 a.m. Nov. 15.
Worthy said it is always tragic when the life of a promising young person is cut short.
“By every account, Ghada Mustapha was a young, brilliant and passionate doctor who was just beginning her medical career,” she said. “The alleged actions of this defendant took away her life, along with those hopes, dreams and goals.”
