TRENTON – The City Council approved a geotechnical site investigation and approved the purchase of Trenton VFW Post 1888 and the Trenton Motor Inn for the site of the new fire station.

The investigation, which will be performed by G2 Consulting Group, LLC of Troy, will take place within the northeast quadrant of West Road and Veterans Parkway, the proposed site of the new fire station, which will be a single-story slab-on-grade structure with an approximate footprint of 25,077 square-feet.

A bituminous pavement parking area will be constructed around the perimeter of the fire station and will accommodate fire trucks, passenger car vehicles, and delivery and waste management trucks.

The investigation of the substructure at the site will help determine the needed earthwork, subgrade preparation, foundation construction and the pavement design.

Soil boring will be done using GPS technology. Lab testing will determine the composition of the subsurface soil.

The company will report on the subsurface soil and groundwater conditions, and the type of foundation the new fire station will need based on the information, which includes soil bearing pressure and settlement estimates.

Utility design and construction recommendations will also be provided, as will bituminous pavement cross-section design recommendations.

The company will also report on subsurface conditions that could impact the fire station design and construction.

The city is purchasing the Trenton VFW Post 1888 for $650,000 and the Trenton Motor Inn for $1.25 million and associated closing costs for both.
