WYANDOTTE – City Clerk Lawrence Stec, who was re-elected when he ran unopposed in the May 6 election, resigned due to personal reasons Nov. 30, with Dec. 31 being his last day.

Stec served as city clerk for more than 10 years.

He began working in the public sector as an electrician foreman with the Wayne County Department of Public Service from November 1985 to December 2014, while simultaneously serving Wyandotte.

He was elected to the City Council in 1993, then served from 1997 to 2001 as mayor.

In 2007, he returned to the council for eight years, through August 2015, when he became city clerk.

During the Dec. 8 council meeting, state Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-4th District) recognized Stec with a proclamation and said Stec devoted decades of distinguished service to Wyandotte, demonstrating “unwavering dedication, selflessness and outstanding leadership throughout his tenure.”

Camilleri said Stec advocated for residents as he worked to enhance their quality of life, functioning as a bridge between the government and the community, while ensuring fair and efficient elections.

“Clerk Stec never wavered in his commitment, and his steadfast dedication has left an indelible mark on the city and its citizens,” Camilleri said. “May he know our admiration and warmest wishes for continued happiness and success in his retirement and every endeavor.”
