RIVERVIEW — A 24-year-old Southgate man was arrested at 2:31 a.m. Jan. 9 for operating under the influence of intoxicating drugs following a traffic stop on Fort Street for speeding.

The man, who was driving 57 mph in a 45-mph zone, had a marijuana vape pen in the center console of his pickup. His speech was slurred and the smell of alcohol was evident in the vehicle interior.

The driver admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages earlier at a bowling alley.

During standardized field sobriety tests the man failed to maintain the one-leg balance test, as well as accurately perform a walk and turn test.

A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.116, higher than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.

He was taken into custody, and the marijuana vape pen was taken into evidence. His vehicle was impounded and towed.

He was transported to Corewell Health Hospital in Trenton for a blood draw, after which he was transported to the Riverview police station, where he was booked and held.
