Varsity football players and cheerleaders from Downriver high schools are paired with Victory Day athletes to serve as mentors and participate in a football game during Victory Day held Sept. 11 at Riverview Gabriel Richard Catholic High School. The day gives cognitively and physically impaired children an opportunity to play football or cheer and be awarded with a medal to commemorate their victory. Aaron Segedi, GR varsity football associate head coach and defensive coordinator, started the annual day in 2010 after beating cancer for the third time.
