Students in the Allen Park cadet program learn ropes and knots Oct. 7. The students previously donned self-contained breathing apparatus and hoisted Stokes basket rescue stretchers to the third floor of the training tower. The program is sponsored by the city of Allen Park in partnership with Wayne County Schools, the William D. Ford Career Technical Center and Wayne County Community College Downriver Campus. Any 11th- or 12th-grader residing in Wayne County can complete the courses through the program and will have Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Material Operations, EMT-Basic certifications and 30 college credit hours upon high school graduation.
