Sanctuary of Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church during a Sunday worship service.
DEARBORN — A hymn festival, titled “Hymns Triumphant – Great and Glorious Hymns of the Church” will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 15. Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church will host 90 minutes of hymns in the sanctuary as part of its annual Music at Cherry Hill series.
Many favorite, well known and beloved hymns of the Christian faith will be performed under the direction of Charles Miller, the church’s director of music. He will be joined by organist David Wagner, also known as the voice of WRCJ-FM 90.9 radio. Fifty singers from local area churches will make up the choral ensemble and accompanied on the piano, organ, and nine musicians from the Motor City Brass Band.
“With the tremendous vocal and instrumental accompaniment assembled, there are certain to be soul-stirring and inspiring arrangements people may not hear during a regular church service,” Miller said. “We want the audience to feel free to join in and sing at the top of their lungs.”
He added that hymns will be sung from various parts and holidays of the church year and interspersed with hymn-related readings from sacred writers, mystics, poets and monastics.
The hymn festival is open to the public. Tickets are not being sold though suggested donations of $15 each will be accepted at the doors following the event conclusion.
Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church is at 24110 Cherry Hill Road. Ample parking is available in the church parking lot. A handicapped accessible entrance is available on Drexel Street, west of the church sanctuary.
