HEIGHTS – The Love a Michigan Vet Project, a local service organization dedicated to serving the needs of Michigan military veterans in need, will host its annual “Women Veterans’ Stand Down” Dec. 7 at the Richard A. Young Recreation Center, 5400 McKinley St.
The free, women-only event – geared specifically toward the needs of female military Veterans – will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All aspects of the event are geared specifically toward the interests and needs of women veterans.
The event is open to all women veterans, no matter what branch of the military they served in, or where they currently live. Proof of military service will be required at the registration table prior to entry.
The event will feature representatives from select military and veteran service organizations who will provide on-site assistance – including the Wayne County Veterans Services and the Wayne County Veterans Court.
“We are looking forward to another great event,” said Nadine Jones, organizer and founder of the Love a Michigan Vet Project organization. “This event is one of the first of its kind in the area, as it is designed specifically toward the needs of women veterans.
“Every year, we see more and more ladies come in to learn more about their veterans benefits — many times, they learn they are eligible for certain benefits that had no idea they could take advantage of — and that’s what this event is all about. We hope the area’s women veterans will join us for an afternoon of great comradery, information, and helpful service.”
Attendees can pre-register for the free event at www.eventbrite.com/e/female-veterans-stand-down-2024-tickets-1038227826377.

About the Love a Michigan Vet Project:
Love a Michigan Vet Project was created by Nadine Jones (following a two-year stint in Americorps), and provides numerous types of assistance to veterans in Michigan. The group works closely with four veterans shelters in the metropolitan Detroit area, hosting dinners at one of the shelters monthly. The organization continuously seeks resources to help local veterans in need. Examples of the services it provides includes hosting a local food pantry, providing toiletry items, shipping “care packages” overseas to active military members, and helping furnishing homes of veterans once they are able to leave their shelter – as well as providing counseling, employment, housing and legal aid assistance.
