DEARBORN —The Dearborn Symphony is setting the stage for an evening of music and travel with Rick Steves’ Symphonic Europe at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7.
This unique concert experience combines breathtaking symphonic performances with stunning video from Steves’ acclaimed PBS travel series. The footage is projected in high definition above the orchestra along with the excitement of live music, creating an immersive celebration of Europe’s cultural treasures.
The program begins with the familiar strains of “America the Beautiful” before embarking on a European journey through Strauss’ “Emperor Waltzes,” Wagner’s “Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin,” Smetana’s “The Moldau,” Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance,” and more.
Each piece honors a nation’s spirit and musical heritage, culminating in Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” Europe’s official anthem, which reflects the continent’s motto, “United in Diversity.”
Steves, America’s leading authority on European travel, brings context and insight through video introductions that highlight the history, landscape, and cultural soul of each work. From Verdi’s Italy and Grieg’s Norway to Rimsky-Korsakov’s Spain, the concert invites listeners to experience Europe through the shared language of music.
Ticket prices range from $18 to $38 for adults and $10 to $15 for students. Tickets are available by calling the Symphony office or the Michael A. Guido Theater box office at 313-943-2354. Go to dearbornsymphony.org for more information.
