DEARBORN —The Dearborn Symphony presents “Shall We Dance,” an electrifying evening where symphonic music and movement come together in a vibrant, genre-spanning performance at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.
This dynamic concert blends classical masterworks, cinematic favorites, Broadway hits, and contemporary sounds, brought to life not only through music, but through live performances by dancers from the Downriver Dance Academy, choreographed by Spencer Genrich.
Select works throughout the evening will be enhanced by choreography, adding a powerful visual dimension to the orchestra’s performance of Music That Moves.
The program moves effortlessly across styles and eras, from the jazzy pulse of Leonard Bernstein’s “Times Square” from the musical “On the Town,” and the magical “Potter Waltz” from “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” to the lush lyricism of Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake.” Audiences will also hear the infectious swing of “Sing, Sing, Sing!,” the sultry rhythms of Piazzolla’s “Libertango,” and highlights from “Wicked.”
After intermission, the orchestra dives into the colorful Spanish rhythms of Manuel de Falla’s “Three Dances” from “The Three-Cornered Hat,” before closing with the electrifying energy of Arturo Márquez’s “Danzón No. 2.”
In addition to the concert, audiences are invited to participate in a pre-concert dance class led by Genrich, beginning at 6:30 p.m., offering a fun, interactive way to engage with the music and movement featured onstage.
Ticket prices range from $18 to $38 for adults and $10 to $15 for students. Tickets are available by calling the Symphony office or the Michael A. Guido Theater box office at 313-943-2354. Go to dearbornsymphony.org for more information.
