DEARBORN – The spirits of Halloween seemed to approve of the Oct. 3 opening of Hallowe’en in Greenfield Village, dispelling all remnants of rain and granting warm, costume-friendly weather.

Whether one took a haunted train ride or wandered around the village, pleasant surprises were everywhere, from costumed characters to entertainers.

Jack-o’-lanterns lined the walkways, setting the mood, while horse drawn wagons decorated with foliage provided guests with an idyllic overview of the village.

Friendly witches greeted guests near the entrance, while pleasant spell casters offered a different type of ride at Witch Hazel’s used broom lot.

The seasonal scarecrows offered a colorful photo op, while the Grim Reaper beckoned the leery with a boney finger.

A troll guarded the covered bridge, and a coven of otherworldly spirits formed a spell-casting circle near the Farris windmill.

Family-friendly characters were also in abundance, whether it was the friendly frog at the historic Herschell-Spillman carousel or the Alice in Wonderland characters at the Mad Hatter’s tea party along Main Street.

Most dates for Hallowe’en at Greenfield Village are sold out. For more information, go to THF.org.
