LINCOLN PARK HIGH SCHOOL THESPIAN TROUPE WINS PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARD

Lincoln Park High School Thespian Troupe 4569 was honored by the national Educational Theatre Association with the Theatre in our Schools Outstanding Impact Award, one of three high schools in the country to receive the honor.

The other recognized thespian troupes are 846 at Neshaminy High School in Langhorne, Pa., and 6800 at Prosper High School in Prosper, Texas.

The award recognizes troupes that have made a significant impact on their schools and communities through their advocacy to advance the field of theater education.

LPHS Theater Director Geoffrey Kopp said he is proud of his students’ “tireless dedication, time and energy,” and praised them for sharing their love of theater with the community.

As part of their award, the troupe will receive a show license from the official sponsor of Theatre in Our Schools, Disney on Broadway, in partnership with Music Theatre International and the EdTA.

‘THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL – A BEAUTIFUL NOISE’ VISITS THE FISHER DURING THE HOLIDAYS

If you haven’t finished your holiday shopping, consider slipping some tickets to the Fisher Theater into your loved ones’ stockings or under the tree.

The latest show coming to town is the Detroit premiere of “The Neil Diamond Musical – A Beautiful Noise,” which runs Dec. 24 through Jan. 5 at the Fisher Theater, 3011 W. Grand Blvd. in Detroit.

The musical draws its name from Diamond’s 1976 album of the same name.

The musical is structured around a series of therapy sessions during which Diamond reacts to his song lyrics as they are read aloud by his psychiatrist, releasing 60 years of songwriting.

As the story unfolds, a collage of the singer’s songs comes to life on the stage.

The musical, which was created in collaboration with Diamond, tells the story of a kid from Brooklyn who became an American rock icon, with classic songs like “America,” “Forever in Blue Jeans” and “Sweet Caroline.”

Other songs in the musical include “”I’ll Come Runnin’,” “I’m a Believer,” “Solitary Man,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,” “Song Sung Blue,” “Cherry, Cherry,” “Love on the Rocks,” “Hello Again,” “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” “Shilo,” “I Am… I Said,” and “Holly Holy.”

Diamond said that some of his most thrilling nights of his life happened when he was on tour, and he hopes that the tour of “Beautiful Noise” brings the musical experience to audiences across the country.

“I hope they enjoy it as much as I have,” he said.

“American Idol” winner Nick Fradiani will reprise his Broadway role as Neil Diamond in the national tour.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Dec. 26 to 28 and 30, and Jan. 2 to 4; 6:30 p.m. Dec. 29 and Jan. 5; 1 p.m. Dec. 24 and 31, and Jan. 5; and 2 p.m. Dec. 26, 28, and Jan. 4 at the Fisher Theater.
