DEARBORN – Vintage vehicles, including cars, firetrucks, motorcycles and bicycles, promenaded along the roads of Greenfield Village Sept. 6 and 7 during The Henry Ford’s Old Car Festival.

With vehicles manufactured through 1932, an eclectic variety of roadsters inspired fascination and awe among guests.

The Henry Ford displayed its 1893 Benz, an 1898 Autocar and a full-size model of George Selden’s 1877 Motor Buggy.

Exhibitors proudly displayed their classic cars in groupings, including 1901 to 1913 speedsters and bicycles, 1914 to 1927 cars and auto touring displays, cars from 1928 to 1932, and commercial vehicles and motorcycles from an earlier era.

An exhibitor said one of the most satisfying elements of the Old Car Festival is being able to safely cruise throughout the roads in Greenfield Village in their vintage vehicles, something that is limited by safety and speed concerns on public roads.

Many exhibitors got in character by dressing in costume to match the era and price-point of their car.

Cars from each era passed in review at the main stage, with the announcers providing history about each entry.

Early steam combustion engines were on display at the Henry Ford birthplace, while the early camping contrivances of “tin can tourists” were also available to curious onlookers.

Ragtime music played near the ever-popular frozen custard stand, and earlier era bright red firetrucks fascinated fans of all ages.

Attendees also had an opportunity to snap photos in a Model T next to one of the early Ford Motor Co. buildings.
