WYANDOTTE – Santa, Mrs. Claus and the reindeer kicked off the holiday season during the 82nd annual Holiday Parade Nov. 22 down Biddle Avenue amidst bands, eager participants and enthusiastic attendees.
A Police Department Color Guard led the parade, followed by police vehicles and fire trucks loudly announcing the start with roaring sirens.
Parade Grand Marshal Stacey Bozymowski followed in an elegant horse drawn wagon, along with local politicians on foot.
Wyandotte Municipal Services displayed an impressive array of vehicles, including a float with two power line workers stringing colorful lights.
Many musical groups marched the parade route, including members of the Wyandotte eighth-grade instrumental music program, the Riverview Community High School Marching Pirates, Taylor West Middle School Marching Band, Wyandotte Instrumental Music participants, and the Wyandotte Roosevelt High School Marching Chiefs.
Members of the Wyandotte Stars vintage base ball club walked the parade route, as did a remote-control car group who entertained parade attendees.
Scout groups were plentiful, and Wyandotte’s Rogalin Dance Troupe of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America danced along Biddle in their colorful costumes.
Members of the animal rescue group Shelter to Home walked the parade route, as did students and adults from St. Paul II Catholic School of Lincoln Park.
A Jeep contingent, members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Detroit Fire Department Clowns joined the parade, as did the Knights of Columbus Wyandotte Council 1802 and veterans from Edward C. Headman American Legion Post 217 of Wyandotte.
Mixter Institute, which offers a post-high school program for young adults with autism, participated in the parade, as did the Downriver Roller Dolls.
Children watching the parade received a generous amount of candy from the parade participants, who tossed a copious volume of treats their way during a cool but sunny day that provided a delightful kickoff to the winter holiday season.
